The Naughty One

The week before Thanksgiving the church nursery was a little shorthanded so I talked Brad into helping me out.  Typically after we go to the 8:00 service together Brad will take our girl home and I will stay and help out in the nursery for the 9:30 service.  This time around we decided to just pull Harvey in our class rather than leave her with someone else for another two hours.

I was kind of excited to have Harvey in class with us so that I could see how she reacts to all the other kids her age.  We go to the park and hit up story time at the library but usually there isn't a whole lot of interaction with other kids, that I get to see. After having Harvey in class with us, along with another 10  toddlers about her age, I've come to realize that I've got a VERY headstrong little girl.

All the other kids played nicely together and just went about their business.  Harvey on the other hand was the loudest kid in there (seriously, she has zero volume control) and for the most part pushed other kids out of the way if they tried taking something she had her eye on.  Brad and I spent most of the time disciplining her and trying to teach her that she does not own the slide and that it's OK to let other kids go down, even when she is 20 feet away and not even playing with it.

I actually wrote in her little baby book, when she was just a few weeks old, about how her cry had some serious gusto behind it and things are definitely starting to play out that way.  I know that part of the reason is because she is an only child right now and doesn't have to share on a daily basis and part of the reason (I hope) was from Brad and I being in class with her.  All I know is that she has got some serious sass these days. I love that she's got her opinions and isn't afraid to voice them, I don't want her to lose that but I just hope she learns how to do it with some grace. And without chucking the book  that I've read to her 327 times across the room, because I nicely declined to read it that very second.

You see that face below?? That look is a sure fire way to get under her dad's skin already.  I get a little  scared just looking at it.

She has also begun requesting princess dresses and "pid tails" on occasion, which explains this look. And I love it.
